The Guardians

The Guardians

The Guardians were commissioned for the first edition of the Tanweer Festival held in the Mleiha desert, three monumental figures sculpted from black-pigmented sand, rising from the earth as protectors of the landscape that shaped them.

Conceived and created by Rabab Tantawy, the sculpture embodies the essence of guardianship, resilience, and humanity’s enduring bond with nature. Their presence under the desert sky felt both ancient and contemporary, timeless forms watching over a land rich with history.
After the festival, the sculptures found their permanent home at the Gate of the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, where they now stand as sentinels welcoming visitors to this sacred site. Rooted in sand yet monumental in spirit, they continue to guard memory, culture, and the delicate balance between people and place.
This limited edition of fifteen sculptures carries the same spirit in a more intimate form. Crafted from desert sand and pigment, each piece holds the quiet power and stillness of the originals.
Their faceless silhouettes invite contemplation, and their flowing robes echo the desert wind, reminders that we are all connected through time, land, and memory.

Owning one of these sculptures means holding a fragment of that story, a tangible link to Mleiha’s desert and to the universal instinct to protect what we cherish.
