Escape Series

While in the Nubian series Tantawy extrapolates core concepts of the Nubian culture and community-building, with the Escape series she goes a step further, bringing these concepts into the realm of abstraction.

No longer working in the language of figurative, she reduces the artistic vocabulary to line, form and color in order to gain more room to experiment in a playful way. Without the need of creating a realistic picture, the artist is now free to tap into a more emotional and subconscious side of herself and of the viewer. The Escape series lets you be fully engrossed in the feel of the artwork while being fully detached from one specific subject.

The body of work has trance-like qualities, letting the viewer flow with the artwork the same way Tantawy lets herself be in a state of flow when creating. Switching from the Nubian series into this abstract series, the artist literally lets herself escape from any sort of structure.

Over the layers of flowing paint, the artists come back with line work that is used to bind together the whole composition. The color palette varies but compared to the Nubian series strong vivid colors are more present.

The Escape series invites the viewer to have a journey into his inner world.
